ARTIFACT: A sequicentennial homage to full frontal journalism
ONE MISSION OF WESTVIRGINIAVILLE is to preserve and pass forward worthy images, artifacts, memorabilia and mementoes of West Virginia's daily life. What could be more daily than a daily newspaper (however long they last — someone knock on wood.) Today marked West Virginia's 154th birthday. In honor of the day, someone tweeted out the sesquicentennial edition front cover of the (now defunct and absorbed into the Gazette-Mail) Charleston Daily Mail from June 20, 2013. It's a nifty piece of design and a reminder of the old-school magnificence of these once or twice a year full-photo front spreads.
